I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if you’ve never heard of the game Tetris, you’ve been working at a weather station in Antarctica for the past ten years. Seriously, if there is a computer or game system made in the past ten years that doesn’t have this game available, I don’t know what it is. Tetris is everywhere.
And the other thing Tetris is – addictive. Very addictive. Once you get started with this game you may not be able to stop yourself.
This version of Tetris, made for the iPhone by Electronic Arts, offers 15 levels and two different modes of play – Marathon and Magic. And while the touch controls may not be the best feature of this game, the developers have managed to give it some interesting twists and a fancy new look.
Marathon mode is the closer of the two modes to the original game concept, with each level requiring you to clear ten rows, at which time the level jumps and the pieces fall at a faster rate of speed. Magic mode is a bit different in that it has 15 individual levels, each with its own objective which is shown at the beginning of the level.
The really unique feature of Magic mode, and how it gets its name, is that there are special “magical” items that can do things like turn blocks into bubbles that you can pop with your finger, or the magic crayon that lets you draw the piece you want to see next. This is very cool, and helpful when you get to the higher, harder levels.
Hopefully EA Mobile will take this game even further by introducing more levels or adding a multiplayer feature in the future, but even as it is now you will find this game very fun and challenging.
Tetris is available from the iTunes Store for only $4.99. You can get it now by going here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id284800458?mt=8
