For the past couple of years, the iPhone has been the fastest growing smart phone on the market. When people first saw the phone, they were amazed at all of the things that it could do. It was one of the first smart phones that really took the time and thought about how people would use the internet on a small screen. It also was the first smart phone that came up with a smooth touch screen interface that was easy to use by normal people. But now that the competitors have seen how good the iPhone is doing, they have decided to join in the fight.
The main competitor when it comes to innovation has been the Google Android operating system and companies have been releasing a good amount of phones based on that OS. Two of the latest phones to have come out are the Droid Incredible and the Droid X. Now that Apple has its fourth edition iPhone ready to hit the market, we will compare the three phones and see how the iPhone 4 is able to compare to the other two phones.
Ease of use
Even though the Android based phones on the market have pretty good user interfaces, they still have not reached the level of the iPhone 4 yet. The fact that Apple controls both the hardware and the software when they create the phone gives them a huge edge in that department. They are able to create software that compliments the hardware perfectly. With the Android operating system, it has to account for all the different types of hardware that the system may run on. So when it comes to the look and feel of the user interface, the iPhone 4 comes out on top of both of the phones.
The hardware
While the iPhone 4 has the powerful A4 processor under the hood, the Incredible and the Droid X both have the just as powerful snapdragon processor running in their system as well. The iPhone 4 has a front facing camera while these two phones do not. The Droid X is able to connect to a 4G network and even though the iPhone has a 4 in its name, it will not be able to connect to a 4G network. The screen of the iPhone 4 is smaller than both the Droid X and the Droid Incredible.
While the screen on the iPhone is 3.4 inches, the Droid X has a screen size of 4.5 inches and the Incredible is 3.7 inches. Some people will like the bigger screens while other people will not. It truly depends on how much media you consume on the phone and how big your hands are. The iPhone 4 has a higher resolution than both of the othe phones but the Droid X comes awfully close.
The software
While the Droid X and the Incredible will come with a perfect integration of all the apps that Google provides, the iPhone 4 has the ability to access the powerful app store. While Google Android based phones also have an app store, the iPhone app stores dwarfs it by comparison when it comes to the amount of apps in the actual store. All three phones have multitasking but the iPhone 4 multitasking is limited unlike the other two phones.
The Droid X and the iPhone 4 comes with the multitouch capabilities that people seem to love when it comes to smart phones.
So the verdict is
When you are comparing the iPhone 4 with the Droid X and the Incredible, the iPhone 4 is still able to come out on top but just barely. The software of the iPhone 4 is what pushes it over the competition.
