If you like Blackberrys you now have a choice. Motorola has a smartphone that looks like a Blackberry named the “Motorola ES400″. Take a quick look at here.

Windows is getting a big lift from the release of this new Motorola ES400. It is the first smartphone to have the “Windows Embedded” platform inside. This is the newest version of Windows Mobile 6.5.3. It is marketed more to business than to individuals.

The screen on the ES400 is three inches in size. It is the resistive touch style rather than the newer capacitive touch. It is not a cheap looking screen. The resolution is above many of the “regular” smartphones at 640 by 480 pixels. The screen is readable upright or on the side.

This smartphone has Wi-Fi. It does not have the latest mode ( “N” )of Wi-Fi, but you can use it in the “B” and “G” modes. The folks at Windows do not have much of an “app” store to offer for downloading nifty programs, but perhaps they will be getting off the ground soon.

The camera on the Motorola ES400 is a 3.15 megapixel unit. It takes photos of 2048 by 1536 pixels. It features autofocus and LED flash. One rare feature of this smartphone is the fingerprint scanner built into the device. This is in keeping with the enterprise aspect of businesses using this smartphone. The ES400 can also scan bar codes.

The more detailed name for the Motorola ES400 is “Enterprise Digital Assistant”, or EDA. It is hardened against rain, snow, temperature extremes and impact. The battery is a big 1540 mAh unit that can be replace with a bigger one if needed. An extended life battery of 3080 mAh can be installed, but it makes the EDA more bulky.

It runs along at a speedy 600 megahertz and has 256 megabytes of RAM memory. The ROM memory is rated at one gigabyte. If you need more, there is a slot for the handy MicroSD card. This can be used just about anywhere in the world, thanks to its ability to switch between GSM networks. Look for it on the Sprint networks soon.
