Google Nexus One – The Google Phone

This phone comes with the latest in screen technology. The AMOLED screen is superior to the TFT versions of the past and uses less energy. It is also brighter than TFT. The resolution of the screen is fanastic at 480 by 800 pixels. The screen can handle multitouch inputs and hand movements to automatically turn the screen from portrait mode to landscape. Just under the screen is a trackball for navigation. It will catch lint and dirt, so it must be kept clean. An optical tracking device would have been better on a smartphone like this one.

The Nexus One looks good. It has a bronze metallic color to it that seems to symbolize a modern “android”. The size is 4.69 inches tall by 2.35 inches wide by .45″ inch thick. That is as thin as just about any smartphone you can buy. The “N1″ as it is also called, does not have a manual keyboard. It handles text input using the on-screen keyboard.

The blazing speed and new technology from the Nexus One are great features of this smartphone. It runs at 1000 megahertz with the aptly-named Snapdragon processor. The memory that is included is hard to beat. It has 512 megabytes of RAM and the same amount of ROM. That is all internal memory. You can add an external MicroSD card and get a whopping 32 gigabytes of extra space. The N1 comes with a four gigabyte MicroSD card for free.

The internal software of the Nexus One is probably the top selling point for the device. As of the latest update, the phone has multitouch ability. This means you can pinch and zoom in to a section of a web page or other document. While that is a popular application, there are at least 30,000 other android applications available for this phone. Others can track the locations of all your contacts with GPS, save you money by scanning barcodes or multiply productivity by handling programs faster. The Nexus One can wipe all personal information from the phone with a pre-made text from another phone. This means you do not have your personal information stolen if you lose your phone.

The Nexus One comes with quad band GSM and quad band WCDMA networks for calling. It comes with all the popular data connections for email, video, browsing or other things. The N1 can connect to Wi-Fi networks on the “A”, “B” and “G” modes. All the services you are accustomed to are included, such as MMS, SMS, email, and google talk. Google talk happens to be the only instant messaging network available.

For music and photos, the N1 has a music player and a camera. It can handle WAV, MP3 and eAAC+ audio files. There is no FM radio. The speakerphone is accompanied by a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack that is located at the top of the smartphone. The camera can take photos at five megapixels of clarity and comes with a LED flash. It is smart enough to detect a smile.

The battery gives the N1 a talk time of about nine hours depending on if you use 2G or 3G networks. The 3G networks use more battery power. The battery is a good sized one at 1400 mAh. You can only get the Nexus One from the Google store. The price is $179 dollars if you get it activated at T-Mobile.
