Just under the screen is a trackball for navigation. It will catch lint and dirt, so it must be kept clean. An optical tracking device would have been better on a smartphone like this one.

The great reason for buying the Nexus One is the raging hot operating system. It is also created by Google and is being found on smartphones around the world. It is called Android. It is open source and has at least 30,000 applications ( apps ) available to be used with it. One of the latest allows you to show your speed by using GPS. Another will track your car for you in parking lots by projecting the position of your car on a map. No more forgetting where you parked your car. Still another will give you popular math formulas on your Nexus One ( or any Android powered device ). YOu get Google Googles and Google Maps to go with that. The Nexus One with Android is tuned to social life, so other things like Twitter and Facebook are a natural. By the way there are apps for Twitter, too. A top web browser by WebKit is included. All other services like voice control and internet messaging round out the total package, but good luck integrating yahoo email service. It does not seem to work on the Android system.

The hardware running the Nexus One is a splendid example of technology. The google phone has a Snapdragon processor that blazes along at 1000 megahertz. The RAM and ROM memory are both at the 512 megabyte level. This makes the smartphone a snap to navigate. You do not have a wait when running through the menus. The power available means you can do your multi-tasking with impunity and not worry about crashing the unit.

The camera takes good shots thanks to its five megapixels of ability. This camera can also control white balance, colors, autofocus, zoom and flash. Recording video is easy and has an average quality. There is thirty minutes of video available at twenty frams per second.

Making calls is a positive experience with the Nexus One. The speakerphone also works well. The battery is a large one and allows talking for seven hours, depending on if you use 2G or 3G channels. The 3G networks use more power. The color choice is brown. It looks more like a metallic bronze than it does brown. This machine will be running on the T-Mobile networks at first and then going to other carriers.
