After the launching of Android cell phones, Samsung is now bringing an improved and updated version of Galaxy with the name Galaxy 2. You can easily see its pictures on internet which were leaked some weeks ago.

But in general, company has not announced officially about it. It is expected that this product will be in the market from February 2011. It’s looking is just like a Motorola Milestone cell phones but it’s quite different with its extra ordinary features and with its unique specifications.

The Samsung Mythic is an AT&T phone with the look and feel of a smartphone but without the classification of a smartphone. It is a touch screen device and does not come with a manual keyboard. It has TouchWiz installed, a mobile operating platform from Samsung that runs the menus and programs. The apps for the Mythic can be downloaded and installed from the cell tower, a data cable or other methods. The following Samsung Mythic apps will be based on the Java language, and therefore are plentiful.

Since the Samsung Mythic uses the MIDP ( Mobile Information Device Profile ) in version 2.0, the handset can use a lot of different apps. One category is in the area of music. Be ready to download nine different file types in music ( audio ). They are AMR, MIDI, MP3, M4A, AAC ( also called MP4 ), WMA, 3GP ( also called AMR ), and WAV. The MP3 seems to be the most popular of the bunch. If you want to install Samsung Mythic apps using a USB cable you will also need a software on a PC computer using “Samsung PC Studio”.

Other Samsung Mythic apps can include email, apps for making the phone into a flashlight, lifestyle apps, funny face apps and more. The funny face app is one that allows the user to change the shape of a photo of a face. The cheeks can be expanded to make them look fat. The eyes can be changed to make them look Asian ( if they are not Asian ). A new browser is availble for the Samsung Mythic. This is called Wapalta, a strange name for a browser, but nevertheless it can be downloaded as a Java app. It comes with weather, news, worldwide webcams, ICQ ( the messaging service ) and a forum.

Nimbuzz is one of the better Samsung Mythic apps. This is a free calls and messaging app. The free calls are going to have to be routed over 3G, because the Mythic does not have a WLAN. The calls are high quality and are free to other users of Nimbuzz. This app comes with a chat room to meet new people. A feature of Nimbuzz is “Nimbuzzout” and allows cheap international calling. An international call can be as little as two cents a minute with landlines included.

For those who want to learn, there is an app for that. The “General Knowledge” app is usable without a connection to an outside network. It covers Nobel Prize winners, science, books and authors, history, geography, and miscellaneous topics. It is a free app, but requires a password. Not to worry, the password is available for free also from a developer’s blog.

The Samsung Caliber is a good looking handset that was a replacement for the Finesse. It has a good looking screen that is just three tenths of an inch smaller than an iPhone. It does not have 3G or Wi-Fi so downloading an app to this phone may prove to be a tough job. It also does not use Java programming, so that is also out of the equation. What it does use is something called “Brew”. This will allow the Caliber to download games ringtones and graphics. But what games, ringtones or apps are available for Brew ?

A variety of games, ringtone packages, entertainment and productivity apps are available from MetroPCS thanks to its agreement with Qualcomm, the maker of Brew, the “Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless”. One of the productivity apps is called quite simply; “email”. It does what it says, sending and receiving emails for the user of the Samsung Caliber. It is already in the handset, so this app will not need to be downloaded. The other things, like ringtones, will.

To get ringtone apps on the Samsung Caliber you will need to visit the MetroPCS site. The downloads are there for Brew apps. Search for and click on the “download” tab. This will take you to the “Ringtones and Wallpapers” link. From there find the “Realtones Hotlist” tab. You will find it at the top and right side of the Realtones input panel. Keep a lookout on the left side of the resulting page. Find the “Ringtones” link that is located on the top left side of the search results. From there, look through some ringtones that you like. You should be able to hear samples on your computer. Once you see one that you want, click the “buy now” button for it. You will be asked for your phone model and phone number. This is where the MetroPCS phone number should be entered into the web page. This will result in your phone getting a SMS message. Once it arrives, click on the link in the text to open another new page for buying the ringtone. You will be presented with some terms to agree with. Agreeing with them is the only option given if they let you download the ringtone or not. Once you agree, you confirm the purchase and the credit card for the account associated with that MetroPCS phone number will be charged for the ringtone. You are done !

The ringtone will automatically be downloaded to the Samsung Caliber without any help from you. A quick search in the menus and settings will show you a new tone in the list. This can be duplicated with wallpapers or other downloadable ( such as games ) apps from the MetroPCS site.

The first thing about this model is the blazing speed. The “Moment” comes with an 800 megahertz processor. That is faster than most any that use this operating system from google. This makes this phone a race horse when it comes to start up time. You will wait just forty one seconds for this phone to be fully booted up. Other phones that are on the level of the Moment use more than a minute. You will be able to switch between windows at lightning speed and open and close applications with the same velocity. This quality is one of the highest selling points of the phone. You will not have to wait for it, it will be waiting on you.

The hardware on the Samsung Moment is pretty much generic, with a micro USB port and the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack. The keyboard is a bit on the strange side. It has some buttons in strange places. You may have to get use to the positioning of the arrow keys. They are super close the regular keys. If this layout will not bother you, forget about it, but it is different from many keyboard layouts. For the positive word on the keyboard; the buttons are spaced far enough apart to use comfortably and they have good tactile feedback. The Moment comes with its own number row at the top, just like a regular notebook.

The camera is alos a generic 3.2 megapixels and makes generic photos. That means they are not spectacular, but are “good enough”. A negative point for the camera is that it has no automatic flash. You either have it turned on or you have it turned off. The phone will not be deciding when to use the flash, you will. That is quite a departure from regular smartphones.

The display screen for the Moment is an AMOLED style. An AMOLED screen is one that will allow you to view the screen at more angles. You will also be able to see it better in sunlight. You will also have a longer battery life over a LCD screen, which is what most of the older smartphones and cellphones have used. If you wondered what AMOLED stands for, it is; “Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode”.

Getting to the Android operating system of this small powerhouse, we see that Samsung left it in basic mode. The phone is shipped with version 1.5 of Android. It is not as impressive looking, but at the same time it will not be taking up as much precious processor speed either. The plain looks of the screen are okay if you do not care about fancy graphics. Remember; fancy graphics slow down the phone. Cupcake is the version of google Android this phone is running. It can be updated automatically so look forward to this event happening soon. One drawback to the simplicity is the lack of a battery charge meter. You do not know how much you have charged the phone when it is plugged in and charging.

The Samsung Moment is using Sprint at the moment. That may prevent this phone from being sold as much as it could simply because they ( Sprint ) do not have as many users as the other carriers. Is it worth it to switch ? Well, that is what this article is hopefully going to help you decide. The phone is a contender for the prize of highest quality in the design category, but a few user features that some are already accustomed to are also missing. If you like speed and quality, then this would be your phone. If you can not handle a few quirks, you may want to look at other smartphones. Overall, this phone hits the mark and stays in the “super smartphone” category.

The new Samsung Pixon has arrived with an 8-megapixel camera and a multimedia player, this latest model from a Korean company is a high-class and is the direct rival of the Renoir from LG. Boasts the title “King of all multimedia phones”, currently held by iPhone. Under the hood of this piece of art you will find loads of features, this includes the 8-megapixel camera claimed to be “better than a genuine camera” also a various video file formats for playing clips even without converting to them. Unfortunately it lacks in global 3G and Wi-Fi.

DESIGN:

The Samsung Pixon is claimed to be the slimmest 8-megapixel camera phone to date, but regrettably technology hasn’t figured out how to hide an 8-megapixel camera and not forgetting all the extras in an extremely thin phone. Pixon is not a “fat” phone but it does not match up to other trendy phones in the market, its lens and bottom also is protruding (similar to a usual camera). The phone is not as thin as we would like however it does feel good in the hand, but let’s face it the phone is not one of the best designs and it also is just a typical multifunctional model. On the upside it is very user-friendly and it’s well made.

Most of the front of the phone is taken up by the display which is 3.2 and has a resolution 240×400 on a standard wide screen with a support of 265k. It produces pretty decent images also while watching videos. It also has a great addition it, the brightness sensor this makes its display usable on sunny days.

The Pixon mainly uses touch for all its entries, but there are also physical END and SEND keys. These keys are tiny but protruding and eminent by touch. In-between these keys is a little round button, this mouse can be pressed and is used to take you back.  Most of the buttons are found on the rugged sides; on your left is the Shortcut keys the Hold (locking) and a microSD card slot this is covered with a lid. On the right resides the camera trigger; also included is the camera buttons, at the top resides a charger connector, which is also used for data cable and headphones.

PHONEBOOK:

The improvements made, are more contacts are visible at once, and you can search by your finger scrolling through alphabet. You have multiple fields for every contact and here you able to have multiple entries for each label, this way you able to input two cell phone numbers. It has a large numeric onscreen keypad which is user-friendly, your contacts picture is visualized this takes up half of its screen when receiving a call.

MESSAGING:

Even though the Pixon has an e-mail client, you will be very disappointed with its lack of the automatic settings even of the most popular mail servers. To have Gmail checked server ports had to be manually entered. It has a QWERTY this is activated by rotating the phone.

CONNECTIVITY:

THE Pixon does not support 3G outside the Europe, making it a global quad-band GSM giving you at least 2G on every GSM networks. These days most cell phones are used to surf the net unfortunately this non-smart Pixon is not one of them.

The navigation and page visualization are done by simply finger scrolling, but once again it lacks in zooming out/in. this phone browses fast and correct only the navigation is bad.

CAMERA:

The Pixon come packed with an excellent 8-megapixel camera and is equipped with an overabundance of extras, identical to OMNIA’s and its excellent.  This touch screen come features like smile shot, 13 scenes, face detection, macro, panorama, effects ,ISO adjustments and white balance. It has fast focus 2 seconds in the day and it saves the picture immediately in a mere second. Using the phone is a real pleasure.

The Pixon is fast and also takes great pictures, objects are in proportion and the color is awesome very realistic in all weather conditions, even the Macro shots come out very good. Unfortunately, the Pixon is set with a very weak flash; this is very disappointing since the phone does boast a high-class camera. The phone records videos within DVD resolution of 720x480with is fairly good quality pictures.

MULTIMEDIA:

The music player is not very attractive but it is good, it’s enjoyable to use but it does look old school. It can visualize album art of the songs uploaded; it’s also equipped with RDS and FM radio with an easy to use interface. Even though the phone doesn’t have stereo, its loudspeaker sounds great as both loudness and quality. It doesn’t come with a 3.5mm adapter but with earplugs same as the Walkman ones. In addition you have 7 equalizer presets also WOW SRS effect.

PERFORMANCE:

We were ecstatic with Pixon’s capability as a receptacle multimedia player; it also passes as just an ordinary phone as well. The sound when receiving or making a call are somewhat muffled from time to time, but above all its pretty good. Regrettably the loudspeaker sounds poor at high levels making the calls sound muddled (yet the music sounds good at the same levels). On the other end you sound weak, yet you speaking from short distances.

CONCLUSION:

The Pixon is the only phone that is able to compete with the iPhone, yet it has a unattractive music player the sound is still outstanding. This model is user-friendly and has an excellent functionality, although the video playback lacks behind the various codec support compensates for it. It has an awesome 8-megapixel camera but its web browser is not so commendable. All in all if you looking for a fun phone then I suggests you go for the Pixon.
