Many people look for a combination of mobile phone with the picture quality that a digital camera can deliver. When Sony merged with Ericsson, the company made wonders. The very first Sony Cyber-Shot digital camera was released in 1996. A decade later in 2006, Sony Ericsson came out with their first mobile phone to feature the trademark Sony Cyber-Shot digital camera: the Sony Ericsson K800, with a 3.2 mega pixel camera. Other younger siblings of the K800 soon followed, all of which possessed Carl Zeiss optics and xenon flash bulbs. Finally, by the fourth quarter of 2007, we will all soon be introduced to the newest member of the family: the Sony Ericsson K850.
This new model from Sony Ericsson measures 102 x 48 x 17 mm and weighs 118 grams. The Lithium Polymer battery can withstand a talk time of 9 hours, or 400 hours standby time. The K850 has an internal memory of 40MB, plus an included Memory Stick Micro of 512MB, it can also accommodate microSD cards. The phonebook can hold 1000 contacts with 20 entries per contact.
Like the other Cyber-Shot mobile phones, the K850 packs the Zeiss lens and xenon bulb. But this one has a 5.0 mega pixel camera and more advanced digicam features that unleash the inner photographer in everybody. The K850 has a BestPic option, which allows you to take nine continuous photos in one snap, perfect for sports events. The K850 also has photo fix, in which the camera automatically adjusts the light balance to give you the best shot possible. The K850’s PictBridge program lets you send photos straight to the printers, without having to attach cables or transfer memory cards. The 2.2 inch QVGA screen displays 262,000 colors, which makes it a great viewfinder for the digital camera. The digital camera works equally well in capturing videos for MMS messages or for uploading. Videos can be taken at 30 frames per second and saved in QGVA quality.
Of course, we’re not only raving about the K850 because of its super cool digital camera. It is, after all, a mobile phone, and a fully-functional multitasker, too. The packet data for this phone supports EDGE, GPRS, and HSDPA. Getting online is fast, but not exactly ultra speedy. The K850 has Bluetooth, Infrared, and mini-USB connectivity. You can sync up your K850 with your PC. It can play audio in AAC and mp3 format, which can be used as ring tones aside from the 72 included polyphonic tones. There is a ring tone composer for personalizing ring tones. The K850 also has a built-in FM radio.
Other useful features of the K850 are voice memo, voice dialing, motion sensor which auto-rotates the camera from portrait to landscape, T9 dictionary for text input, as well as supported Java games and applications. There is also a front-facing camera that lets you take self-portraits or make video calls with 3G. The K850 package comes with the charger, stereo headset, and instruction manual. So far, no pricing or availability has been released. The other colors aside from the black unit will be in luminous green or velvet blue.
