The Nexus One is the very first phone from the search engine giant named Google. This phone is a good example of what a first-launch should be successful at. If you are curious about the new “Google Phone” take a look at it here in this short article.

You want speed with your phone. You want a great screen, You want connectivity. You do not want to have to type on some small keyboard that is too small for your fingers. You want a phone that impresses your peers with its good looks. You have most of the above and more with the Nexus One. The speed is one of the fastest on the planet for smartphones. It has prompted some people to make a new category; “superphone”. Although it is still unclear what phones deserve this title, the Google Phone may well be in it. It runs around on warp speeds of 1000 megahertz, the same speed as laptops a few short years back. If you like only one thing about this phone, it will be the speed.

The screen is bright. It uses new technology called AMOLED. This is a superior version of “OLED”. It is an organic LED ( Light Emitting Diode ) screen that uses less energy than a regular LCD screen of times past. It is also brighter so using it in direct sunlight is not such a pain in the eyes. The screen is a respectable size; 3.7 inches from corner to corner. The other competitor of this class are closely the same in size. It is the capacitive touch style of display, with glass covering the screen. It includes a light sensor to keep brightness under control.

For connectivity in a connected world with myriad networks, the Nexus One holds up. It gets a “C+” for a grade. Believe it or not, the Google Phone is not perfect. Some places will experience a drop in the available signal. T-Mobile is the carrier that the Nexus One has chosen to use and they just do not have the coverage of Verizon yet. The phone has some public woes in this area, so beware of this shortcoming.

The operating system, Android, is the centerpiece of the Nexus One. It is the creation of a company known for great search results; Google. What is the news on this ? This is a direct affront to Linux Maemo and the Apple iPhone. The race is on in the world of software and the Google Phone is a tight player. You will like the fact that you have five different choices of homescreens to choose from. The screen is laid out as best as a new phone can be. It is new and has had little time to have the proper feedback on this aspect. Look for a better update of the Android after the 2.1 version that is currently running.

A feature you will welcome is the automatic noise cancelling. The Google Phone has two microphones. One on the bottom and one on the back. The one on the back adjusts the volume of the speaker in your ear when the sound levels change. Are you trying to talk in traffic ? The smartphone will increase the volume to your ear. Likewise, if it is quiet, you get less volume.

The Android ( Google ) market for applications is still a bit weak. Apple has lots more but they have also been at this for a longer amount of time. Look for the open source community to work their fingers off for you to get applications that you like on your phone. This first phone is good looking, a good personal performer and a worthy opponent in the world of smartphones. Look for it to excel soon.
